Step 1: Log in to Your Domain Registrar or Hosting Provider
Visit the website of your domain registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, Bluehost) or hosting provider.
Log in to your account using your credentials.
Step 2: Navigate to the DNS Management Section
Once logged in, find the section where you manage your domains. This might be called "Domains," "My Domains," or something similar.
Select the domain whose DNS records you want to update.
Look for an option like "DNS settings", "DNS management", or "Manage DNS". This is usually under the domain settings for the particular domain you're working on.
Step 3: Locate the DNS Records
After entering the DNS management page, you should see a list of existing DNS records, including common types like A records, CNAME, MX, TXT, and NS records.
There might also be an "Advanced DNS" or "Manage DNS Records" option you need to click to see the full list of records.
Step 4: Identify the DNS Record to Update
Look through the list of DNS records for the specific record you want to update. For example:
A record: Maps a domain to an IP address.
CNAME record: Points one domain to another domain (alias).
MX record: Specifies mail servers for the domain.
TXT record: Used for verification or additional text-based information.
Each record type has a name (like "www" or "@" for root domain), a TTL (time to live, which determines how long the record is cached), and a value (like an IP address or hostname).
These values will be supplied by Dealer Studio
Step 5: Update the DNS Record
Click on the "Edit" or "Modify" button next to the record you want to update.
Change the necessary information:
For an A record, change the IP address.
For a CNAME, update the target domain.
For an MX record, change the priority and mail server address.
For a TXT record, update the text or verification string.
You can also modify the TTL if needed (commonly set to 300 seconds, which equals 5 minutes).
Step 6: Save Changes
After updating the DNS record, click Save, Update, or Apply Changes (the exact button varies by platform).
Step 7: Wait for DNS Propagation
DNS changes can take some time to propagate across the internet. This propagation usually takes anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours, depending on the TTL settings and DNS servers.
Example (GoDaddy DNS Management):
Log in to GoDaddy.
Go to My Products.
Click DNS next to the domain you want to update.
Scroll to the Records section.
Click Edit next to the record you want to change.
Make your changes and click Save.
Example (Cloudflare DNS Management):
Log in to Cloudflare.
Go to your Dashboard and select the domain.
Click DNS in the top menu.
Find the DNS record you want to update.
Click Edit, make the changes, then click Save.
Important Notes:
TTL affects how quickly the changes take effect.
Be careful when updating NS (Name Server) records as these control the authoritative DNS server for your domain.
If you are unsure of what to change, consult your web host or email provider for the correct DNS settings.
